If your Stanley thermos isn't keeping your coffee hot as long as advertised, the vacuum insulation layer is likely compromised. Air entering the vacuum insulation layer disrupts heat retention. What you can do:

• Test your Stanley thermos with boiling water without the lid. Later, touch the thermos under the neck. If you feel warm spots everywhere, the vacuum insulation is compromised.
• Compare with Another Thermos: Fill your Stanley and another similar thermos with warm water. Watch how long it takes your Stanley thermos' water to return to room temperature compared to the other thermos.
• Fill the Stanley thermos with water and submerge it in a sink or bathtub. Thermos that float when released indicate air in the vacuum layer.

If any of these tests show that the vacuum insulation layer is compromised, request a replacement from the manufacturer, especially if the thermos is under warranty. Stanley thermoses have lifetime warranties, so you can file a claim for a replacement.

If your thermos is heavily damaged or dented, you may not be eligible for a warranty replacement and may need to buy a new one.

A damaged Stanley thermos can still work if the vacuum seal is intact. Despite external dents or damage, the thermos should work if the vacuum layer is intact.
