A Paytm UPI transfer can fail while money is debited if there’s a timeout or connectivity issue between your bank, Paytm, and the NPCI UPI network, even though the debit request was processed.

In such cases, the transaction is marked failed but the funds temporarily stay with the banking system.

In most scenarios, failed UPI transactions are automatically reversed within 24–48 hours as per NPCI rules, and the amount returns to your bank account without action. You should check the UTR in Paytm’s transaction history to confirm the status.

If the money doesn’t return after two working days, raise a dispute directly in the Paytm app or contact your bank’s UPI support with the UTR and screenshots.
