Turkish Airlines Flight Delay - Missed Connection, Lost Baggage Complaint
On 11 October 2025, I experienced serious inconveniences during my scheduled flights with Turkish Airlines from OTP (Bucharest) to IST (Istanbul) and onwards to BJV (Bodrum). My OTP–IST flight, originally scheduled to depart at 15:55, was delayed until 22:00, and boarding was only completed around 23:00. As a result, I missed my connecting flight to Bodrum. The rebooked IST–BJV flight was later cancelled and moved to the following morning, while my checked baggage – for which I paid ₺5,000 despite being a student – was left behind in Bucharest and was not delivered to me on time. During this process, I was forced to wait for approximately 8 hours at the airport without being provided with any meals, drinks, or accommodation. I had to spend the entire night at Istanbul Airport without sleep, and when I approached the desk at F44 for assistance, I was given no support and my request to speak to a supervisor was denied. This disruption not only ruined my travel plans but also caused me to miss a very important family event (my brother’s engagement ceremony), forced me to miss work, left me exhausted due to lack of sleep, and resulted in significant financial and emotional distress. According to EU Regulation EC 261/2004 and the Passenger Rights Regulation in Türkiye, I am entitled to compensation for delays and cancellations exceeding 3 hours, assistance in the form of meals, refreshments and accommodation, and additional compensation for baggage irregularities – especially considering I paid a high baggage fee which was not honored as my luggage remained in Bucharest. In this regard, I kindly request that Turkish Airlines compensate me in accordance with the applicable regulations, reimburse my baggage fee, and cover the damages and losses I have suffered due to these events.
