Turkish Airlines Refuses to Compensate for My Damaged Baggage

June 12, 2025 4:49 PM87

On May 27, 2025, after flight TK180, I noticed that my checked baggage was severely damaged upon collection at Istanbul Airport. The suitcase is a Tommy Hilfiger 28” Hardcase Spinner model. As it is made from ABS and lightweight polycarbonate materials, this kind of structural damage is technically irreparable. I submitted a claim to Turkish Airlines with full documentation, including photos and the purchase invoice. However, I was told that the case would not be reassessed unless I provided an official statement from the manufacturer confirming that the damage is irreparable. As a private individual who purchased the item in the U.S., obtaining such a letter from the manufacturer is highly impractical and time-consuming. This requirement clearly puts an unfair burden on the customer. During my research, I found dozens of similar complaints from other passengers. It appears that Turkish Airlines is using bureaucratic hurdles to avoid responsibility for visible and undeniable baggage damage, which seriously undermines the credibility of the brand. I demand that my claim be fairly reassessed, and that I be compensated with either a suitable replacement or reimbursement for the damage, as is standard practice.
