Turkish Airlines New York-Istanbul Flight Cancellation and Delay Issues
Our THY flight TK004 from New York to Istanbul on November 15 at 12:50 was canceled after waiting for 7 hours at the airport. After waiting for 7 hours with our 5-year-old child, we were made to wait at least 2 more hours in line while they tried to arrange a hotel. The hotel was quite old and in poor condition, and no food was provided. They only arranged transportation to the hotel. It was impossible to find anyone to address our concerns. We couldn't get our original seats for the new flight. We had booked the front row, but they never gave us our seats back. The flight's customer profile was already poor. They initially mentioned 8:50 AM, but now we received a message stating 1:00 PM. Hopefully, we can return today. Our other flight times are also changing, and we are paying additional fees for this. No calls were made regarding our inconvenience, and when we called, no solution was offered.
In addition to the initial complaint I made, the new flight was updated to 11 AM, then the flight time was changed to 1 PM early in the morning, and at 7 AM, the flight was moved back to 11 AM. We had to leave the hotel in a hurry, and I would like to remind you again that we have a 5-year-old child with us. Then we waited in the cold for about 2 hours for the shuttle to arrive (the result? Our daughter got pneumonia, and we are currently continuing her treatment). The airport was already chaotic. If we hadn't found a Turkish staff member there, we would never have made it to the plane. Three incompetent staff members couldn't find our NYC-Istanbul flight, saying that the flights were overlapping. As we mentioned, if it weren't for that staff member, we would never have made it. He provided us with personnel and expedited our gate passage. We regret not getting his name, as we would have liked to thank him again.
