Turkish Airlines Doesn't Allow Paid Lounge Access During 9-Hour Wait!
We had booked a round trip flight with reservation codes T82H3H (Aras Ç.) and SX6GL3 (Gökşen Ç.) from Nevşehir to Istanbul to Thessaloniki for August 2, 2024, for my wife Gökşen Ç. and me on March 14, 2024. As soon as we purchased the tickets according to our business plans, we made both our hotel and car rental reservations based on our arrival time at Thessaloniki Airport on the evening of August 2, 2024. On June 14, 2024, we received a message from Turkish Airlines informing us that our flight TK1893 scheduled for August 2, 2024, was canceled due to mandatory/operational reasons by your company. Since there were no other connecting flights from Nevşehir to Istanbul to Thessaloniki on August 2, we had to change the Nevşehir-Istanbul leg of our canceled flight to the nearest flight TK2009 on August 1, 2024. This TK2009 flight lands at Istanbul Airport at 22:30 on the evening of August 1, 2024, and we will have to wait approximately 9 hours until our next flight at 07:20 on the morning of August 2, 2024. Due to the cancellation of our flight for reasons beyond our control and the lack of a more convenient option provided by Turkish Airlines, we requested access to a lounge at Istanbul Airport where we could wait comfortably, either free of charge or, if not possible, at least paid. However, Turkish Airlines rejected our request in feedback (11045017 and 11042419), stating that the flight cancellation and change were made in accordance with regulations related to passenger rights. As I mentioned in our previous notification, imposing a nearly 9-hour wait on your passengers without providing a comfortable area due to an operational flight cancellation solely caused by Turkish Airlines and the lack of an alternative flight to the same destination on the same day does not befit a reputable company like Turkish Airlines, which claims to be the best in the world. If you do not correct this mistake, you will disappoint us, and we will have reservations about traveling with Turkish Airlines for our future trips.
