Anadolu Jet's Broken Luggage and the Unreasonable Repair Fee

March 15, 2024 3:12 PM14

On January 20, 2024, we traveled from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport to Antalya on Anadolu Jet flight TK7514. After the flight, we discovered that one of our suitcases had a broken pull handle, making it unusable. Additionally, all our luggage was soaked. We reported the broken handle at the Turkish Airlines office at the airport. Other passengers on the same flight also had damaged luggage, and some were given new suitcases. We were told there were no suitable replacements for us and that we should contact the relevant department online for compensation. We reached our accommodation with the suitcase, which had a broken pull handle sticking out like a spear and couldn't be reinserted. We shared the requested invoice and other details with the relevant department. After a few exchanges, we were offered a repair fee of ₺500. The handle couldn't be repaired, and even if it could, it would cost much more. The current prices for a similar suitcase are significantly higher than the ₺500 repair fee offered. It is disappointing that a major international brand like Turkish Airlines would both inconvenience its passengers in this way and offer a compensation amount that doesn't reflect current economic conditions. Since the broken suitcase was unusable, we had to buy a new one, which cost much more than the offered repair fee. I urge Turkish Airlines, which doesn't hesitate to increase ticket prices according to current economic conditions, to be more realistic in compensating for the damage to passengers' belongings.
