We planned to introduce our children to flying by purchasing tickets well in advance with SunExpress, a well-established company, for flight XQ7630 with reservation number HQB4Y9 on July 11, 2024, at 07:25. As the day approached, the kids' excitement about flying made me happy. They went to bed early the night before, too excited to sleep, and woke up at 5 a.m. the next morning. We got ready and were about to leave when I decided to check my emails and messages, only to discover that the flight had been postponed to 13:10.
Being in the tourism industry, I had heard about SunExpress's recent delays. I hoped we wouldn't be affected, but my fears came true. I had booked the 07:25 flight to board my family and make it to work by 9 a.m. Similarly, my father-in-law closed his shop and set off for Adana to pick us up. He left early due to the long distance. For the 13:10 flight, we left home around 11 a.m. I checked again for any further delays, and there were none. However, upon arriving at the airport, we were devastated to hear that the flight was delayed again to 15:55.
During the lunch break, they offered to take us to eat, but there was a limited staff menu, and we couldn't have anything we wanted. The children wanted meatballs and hamburgers, but we were told we'd have to pay extra, with a hamburger costing ₺410. The smell tempted my children, making it embarrassing that I couldn't buy them the food. We had to sit there, unable to satisfy their cravings. Later, I suggested they go to the gate, but it wasn't clear which one. We wandered around hungry and exhausted until 15:50. We lost an entire day. We tried explaining our situation to the officials, but no one listened. Information sheets were handed out at the gate, saying we'd have rights for the remaining delay, but they dismissed us. Despite claims that it was a SunExpress plane, we ended up boarding an old, worn-out Tailwind aircraft.
In summary:
I had to take a day off without pay.
I parked the car at the airport at 11 a.m. and left at around 16:10, incurring extra parking fees.
My father-in-law closed his shop in Adana to pick us up and take us to Osmaniye, losing a day's wages.
Most importantly, my children's excitement, enthusiasm, and dreams were crushed.
I am requesting compensation for the financial and emotional damages we experienced.
