Yesterday, I rented a car in Jena, Germany, through Booking.com for pickup today. At around 10:00 a.m., shortly after taking delivery, the car overheated. I pulled over and opened the hood, only to see that the engine coolant was low. Upon closer inspection and in the photos I took, I noticed that the hose carrying water to the engine was secured with nothing more than a simple tape, and water was leaking from that exact spot. Even after adding coolant, the level dropped below the minimum mark again within a very short time.
I was supposed to drive from Jena to Zurich, Switzerland, today. I had also booked and paid for a hotel through Booking.com with a check-in date of April 19, 2023. However, the rental company refused to provide a timely replacement vehicle and still charged me for today. Because of the delay in receiving a replacement car, I could not check in to my hotel on time, resulting in a loss of my €221 hotel payment.
Additionally, I had to pay €42 for a Swiss motorway vignette that went to waste. Booking.com’s only response was an apology, with no action to refund my hotel booking or cover my losses. I request full reimbursement for the €221 hotel cost, the €42 vignette fee, and compensation for the inconvenience caused by providing a vehicle in such poor condition. This matter needs immediate resolution.
