Turkish Airlines Rejected My Boarding Despite Having Green Passports And Schengen Visas
My friend and I were denied boarding on Turkish Airlines flight TK0184 scheduled to depart at 02:25 on February 25, 2024, despite having green passports and Schengen visas. My Mexican boyfriend, who had a hotel reservation with me in Cancun, was left alone and distressed. Our meticulously planned vacation was adversely affected. During passport control in Istanbul, we realized my newly issued passport lacked a stamp. In a phone call to understand the situation, we were told the reason was that Mexico no longer accepts Turkish tourists due to concerns about illegal immigration to the USA, and we were denied boarding without any official document or law. Despite having all necessary documents and being able to speak English and Spanish, we were treated unfairly. While this situation didn't bother me personally, my boyfriend was upset for hours. As a Turkish citizen, facing such treatment in my own country and experiencing this negativity despite purchasing a ticket from Turkish Airlines left me disappointed. I could have traveled for less money with another airline. Seeing other Turkish passengers board the same flight while we were denied and the excuse that Mexico doesn't accept Turks is unacceptable. I believe your company is better than this. Yes, some may flee to America, but why should I pay the price for that? I am proud to be Turkish everywhere, but I now condemn the attitudes and behaviors of Turkish Airlines employees towards their own citizens.
