Turkish Airlines Istanbul Airport Baggage Weight Issue
On September 3, 2023, I had a flight from Istanbul to Milan at 12:10 PM. Since we purchased the flight through a holiday tour, we did not receive the ticket information. Based on our previous international flights, we assumed the baggage limit was 23 kg. Therefore, we had two suitcases weighing 23.5 kg and 20 kg respectively, for two people in total. At check-in, after sending my 23.5 kg bag, the staff member asked for a fee of around ₺1300-₺1400 for my friend's 20 kg bag, stating it was 4 kg over the limit. When I asked why she didn't mention this before sending the first bag, she replied that it was not her responsibility to inform us of the weight limits and that she doesn't ask every customer before sending their bags. She explained that my friend's bag was 20 kg, and we had already exceeded the limit. When I took a photo of the G Desk at Istanbul Airport (numbers 30-31) for a complaint, she said it was prohibited, questioned why I took the photo, and raised her voice, saying I could complain wherever I wanted. We have never experienced such treatment before. My friend and I were very demoralized before the flight. It drained all our energy and ruined our mood before the holiday.
