On 04.08.2023, my friend B*** C*** and I checked in online for flight TK2720 from Istanbul to Igdir, scheduled to depart at 13:15. We were assigned seats 21A and 21B and generated our mobile boarding passes. At 12:20 on 04.08.2023, I attempted to drop off my baggage at the THY express baggage drop counter at Istanbul Airport. The express baggage agent combined our bags but informed us that due to a change in aircraft type, our mobile boarding passes would not be valid and new boarding passes would be issued. This process caused a delay, and by 12:30, with only 45 minutes remaining until the flight, we were unable to drop off our baggage at the express counter. The express baggage agent directed us to speak with a supervisor at counter D44. We immediately went to counter D44, where the supervisor, being busy, redirected us to an agent at counter D43. At 12:35, we explained our situation to the agent at D43, who stated, 'There is nothing I can do; baggage drop-off closes 45 minutes before the flight. You can board the plane without your baggage.' We explained that we could not leave our baggage as it contained personal items and that the delay was beyond our control due to the change in aircraft type and the need for new boarding passes. The agent at D43 responded, 'No, the change in aircraft type has nothing to do with this. There is nothing I can do.' Subsequently, we approached the Ticketing Department for a ticket change. We were told that we voluntarily changed our tickets and, due to all flights to Igdir being fully booked, we had to purchase tickets to Erzurum, the nearest city to Igdir. We bought tickets for flight TK2190 from Istanbul to Esbantieb on 05.08.2023 at 23:55 and flight TK7070 from Esbantieb to Erzurum on 06.08.2023 at 07:55, incurring an additional cost of ₺3420.72. In summary, despite being at the express baggage drop counter 10 minutes before the cutoff time, we could not drop off our baggage due to reasons beyond our control, missed our flight, lost 2 days, and had to book a hotel in Istanbul as we had no place to stay. I request an investigation into this issue and a refund for my financial loss.
