Turkish Airlines Did Not Correct the Typo on My Ticket

I encountered a shocking surprise upon reaching the Istanbul Airport a month after purchasing my Mia flight from the THY website. The surname on the ticket showed "Yıl" instead of "Yıldırım." Despite the correct ID number for Turkish citizens being entered during the ticket purchase, the staff insisted I couldn't board the flight. When requesting a correction, I received a negative response. The alternative ticket cost twice the amount I paid, making it unaffordable.

I resorted to placing a file on the THY website for correction, leaving me no choice but to turn my recommended ticket into credit when realizing I couldn't board the plane. I suspected a technical glitch rather than a typing error when filling out the form, as it resembled the common issue of page reloads during lengthy transactions.

In my subsequent examination of the flight dates, I noticed a discrepancy between the emailed dates and an SMS addressing me as "Dear Passenger." In our appeal to THY, we sought a review of the situation and the rectification of our grievance since the Turkish ID was correct apart from the passenger name. Regrettably, the response merely emphasized the need for increased caution without addressing the core issues.

Upon further inquiry, THY mentioned a reimbursement of approximately 1/12 of the paid amount. This unfair treatment left me stunned. In my 35 years of flying experience, I've never encountered such a situation. While there might be legal justifications, morally, this seems like a grave injustice. With two months until the return flight, the abrupt dismissal of my concerns feels incredibly unjust. THY could have easily rectified the situation through a Turkish ID query, but instead, they chose to dismiss it, citing their rules. I leave the evaluation of this matter to your conscience. Personally, unless absolutely necessary, I have no intention of purchasing another domestic or international ticket from Turkish Airlines.
