Turkish Airlines Baggage Policy Issue on Prague-Istanbul Flight
On February 21, 2024, I flew from Prague to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines along with my 11-year-old daughter. I paid for my daughter's ticket using Miles & Smiles points, while I purchased my own ticket with cash. I had a baggage allowance of 23 kg, and my daughter had 20 kg. We had only one suitcase weighing a total of 31 kg. Turkish Airlines informed us that a single suitcase was not allowed because the tickets were purchased separately, and thus the baggage had to be separate as well. I requested to combine the tickets since we share the same last name, but this request was denied with the response, 'We do not offer such a service.' Despite purchasing 23 kg for myself and 20 kg for my daughter, I had to pay an extra baggage fee due to having only one suitcase. Even though we had a total baggage allowance of 43 kg for two people, I was still required to pay an additional baggage fee. Turkish Airlines provided no assistance in this matter. On international airlines like Lufthansa or Aegean Airlines, it is possible to combine tickets even if they are purchased separately for a mother and daughter. Additionally, as I mentioned before, I was able to pay for my daughter's ticket with miles, but I had to buy my own ticket due to insufficient miles. Turkish Airlines has always been my preferred airline, but this incident has deeply saddened and disappointed me.
