I Missed Turkish Airlines Flight Due to Staff Negligence

April 15, 2024 8:25 AM13

On April 14, 2024, I had checked in for the 1:00 PM flight from Istanbul Airport to Erzurum Airport. While waiting in line, I was informed that the gate had closed and I would not be allowed to board. This was not my fault; if it wasn't my turn yet, it was the staff's negligence, not mine. I was ready at the airport at 10:30 AM. The staff started yelling and trying to cover up their mistake before I even said anything. When I went to the place they directed me, no one could solve my problem, and everyone kept sending me somewhere else. They said, 'Go here.' I needed to be in Erzurum on April 14, 2024, but due to THY staff's negligence, I couldn't fly that day. I had to buy a ticket to Erzincan the next day and then travel to Erzurum by bus. I am very curious about how they will compensate for my loss and inconvenience. What does it mean to say 'the gate is closed' without any announcement while waiting in line, and how will they explain my ₺5,000 loss for buying another ticket? I've taken hundreds of flights, and this is the first time something like this has happened to me. I wasn't the only one; if investigated, others faced the same issue on the Erzurum flight that day. They were also inconvenienced in the same way. If it were just me, I could say the problem was with me, but the staff's negligence is causing us to suffer, and we are being held responsible. Passengers are accepted on the Antalya flight with just 2 minutes left, but for the Erzurum flight, they say 'the gate is closed' to passengers waiting in line and 'we can't take you' 20 minutes before departure. A faster and non-disruptive solution must be found. Thank you for making me experience this for the first time and for making me regret it.
