I Missed My Flight Due to Turkish Airlines Staff and System Issues
On Saturday, February 3, 2024, I had a flight at 09:10 from Istanbul Airport to Elazig Airport with Turkish Airlines. I arrived at the airport at 07:40, entering through gate 2, which was one and a half hours before the flight. Since I was traveling with a cabin-sized suitcase, I planned to print my ticket from the airport kiosks and head directly to the boarding gate, which should have taken about 20 minutes in total. Upon entering my information at the kiosk, I encountered a system error that prevented me from printing my ticket. I tried another kiosk but faced the same issue. When I informed the Turkish Airlines staff present, they directed me to counter 22. I went to counter 22 immediately, but due to the long queue, I asked for assistance. The staff member rudely told me to wait in line. I started waiting in line with one hour and 13 minutes left until the flight. As the time passed and I was close to my turn with 4 or 5 people ahead of me, another staff member announced that passengers with 50 minutes left until their flight should go to counters 44-45. I politely informed the staff at the counter that my flight was in 50 minutes and asked for guidance, explaining that my turn was almost up. The staff member responded rudely, as if I had arrived at the last minute, and spoke to me in a demeaning manner in front of other passengers. To avoid missing my flight, I went to counter 44 as instructed, only to find a long queue. I explained my situation to the staff managing the queue, but they told me everyone was in the same situation and I had to wait in line. By the time my turn came, there were less than 30 minutes left for my flight, and I was told I had missed my flight and was directed to the ticket counter. When I explained the situation to the staff there, they mentioned that the airport had audio cameras at every point and that if there was a problem as described, it would be corrected. When I tried to book a new ticket, I was informed that all flights were fully booked for the weekend and that the next available flight was on Monday at 23:10. As a teacher, I needed to be present for my classes on Monday, so I searched for tickets from nearby cities but found none. I had to take the Monday flight. Despite arriving early, I missed my flight due to Turkish Airlines' kiosk and staff issues. I filed feedback on the Turkish Airlines website, and they said they would respond within a week. They got back to me after 12 days and said they couldn't assist me.
