I couldn't make it to my THY flight from Izmir on January 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Istanbul Airport. At the first security check around 10:20 AM, we were held up for 10 minutes because someone else's belongings got stuck in the machine. With a child in my arms, a suitcase in hand, and a backpack, I ran to the THY counter. The staff member there kept me waiting for minutes due to a phone call. I complained, and another staff member came. I wanted to check in my suitcase, but they said, 'Take the suitcase with you; you might make it.' I ran to the gate with the suitcase, bag, and child, but the gates had closed 20 minutes before departure, and no staff was present. When I asked the staff at another gate, they said, 'They've gone, unfortunately.' Although there were still 10-15 minutes until the plane's departure, we missed the flight. My two tickets were wasted due to these unnecessary delays. I bought the earliest flight tickets from Pegasus for two people and somehow returned to Izmir. Due to the staff's delays, security issues, and this 20-minute gate rule, I will not consider buying THY tickets again. On another flight, there was a line at the gate, and we boarded 3-5 minutes before takeoff, but we boarded. If there had been a line at the gate for those 20 minutes, we could have made it! Missing the flight by 5-6 minutes due to the staff was disappointing!
