Expedia Reservation Fiasco, No Room, Poor Service

I needed a hotel for only 10 hours during my trip to Colombo and made a reservation through hotels.com. I took a taxi to the hotel after my reservation was confirmed. With only a few hours for shopping and sightseeing, my plan was to leave my luggage and find a place to rest for 1-2 hours. When I arrived, I was informed that there were no available rooms. After a 10-minute conversation with hotels.com customer service, they assured me that they would arrange for another hotel nearby, regardless of the price difference. Despite waiting approximately 30 minutes, I received no response, and no alternative hotel was arranged. Meanwhile, I had to take another taxi and reluctantly check into another hotel, paying twice the price I had booked. I felt mistreated by both hotels.com and the hotel throughout this process. As a tour guide, I will never use or recommend hotels.com or Expedia to anyone after this experience, knowing their negligence, with the only expectation being a small gesture.
