I booked a stay at Hotel Suisse in Tunisia through Booking.com for April 26 to May 3. The listing specifically stated that the hotel was suitable for solo travelers, which influenced my decision. However, upon arrival, I encountered serious safety concerns and was subjected to verbal harassment in the area surrounding the hotel. It became clear that the "solo traveler-friendly" label was entirely misleading.
Due to concerns for my safety, I had to leave the property early on April 30, and I immediately reported the situation to Booking.com, requesting a refund. Despite my urgent complaint, they replied that they couldn’t reach the hotel and refused to assist me in any way.
This response is unacceptable and irresponsible, especially coming from a global platform. Customer safety must never be ignored. I was not only forced to find a new hotel on short notice, incurring extra costs, but the emotional toll of the situation was significant. I even had to seek help from the local police due to the level of discomfort and fear I experienced.
Booking.com’s complete lack of support in such a dangerous situation is especially alarming for solo female travelers. It reflects a systemic disregard for traveler safety and accountability.
I am demanding a full refund for the nights I did not stay and calling on Booking.com to remove or update misleading property tags such as “solo traveler friendly” when the environment clearly does not support it. Misinformation like this puts lives at risk.
