I purchased a pair of Asics Gel-Nimbus 26 running shoes about 7 months ago, and I’ve worn them sparingly—only during races and occasional training runs. Despite this limited and careful use, the toe mesh area has already started tearing, and holes have formed in the front part of the shoe.
I’ve logged only around 200 km in these shoes and have taken excellent care of them. So it was incredibly frustrating to see such damage. I sent them in for inspection right away to prevent the hole from getting worse, but the claim was rejected as user error. I honestly cannot understand how a toe mesh tear could possibly be my fault, especially since the rest of the shoe still looks practically new.
This kind of localized material failure clearly points to a manufacturing or material defect, not misuse. I called customer service and explained everything, only to be told they wouldn’t help. I don’t want to continue wearing these shoes as-is, because at this rate, they’ll be unusable in another month. I’ll be taking this to the Consumer Arbitration Board with full documentation.
We pay a premium price for shoes like this, expecting long-term quality. It makes me question the validity of Asics’ so-called 2-year warranty—I couldn’t even get through 7 months! I’ve had cheaper, lesser-known brands last me over 5 years without a single issue.
Before this experience, I trusted Asics enough to buy a second pair and even recommended the brand to friends, who went on to make purchases themselves. If the return window hadn’t passed, I would’ve gladly returned everything. I really hope the second pair doesn’t end up like this, but this whole ordeal has shaken my confidence. After this experience, I won’t be buying from Asics again.
