Unjust Fee for Turkish Airlines Flight Booking Issue
On 24.11.2023, I purchased flight tickets for my brother (a Turkish citizen) and myself (a German citizen) from Izmir to Toronto for the 12:00 - 18:35 flight on the official THY website (total ₺74,253.66). To ensure everything was correct, I called the customer service center and was connected to Ms. B****, an international flight representative. I was informed that we might not be allowed to board the flight because we couldn't enter our passport information. I explained that the THY system only had a field for Turkish citizens to enter their information. We were given two options: cancel the tickets for ₺24,000 or pay a penalty of ₺14,800 per person to open the file and enter the passport details. We were forced to pay the penalty to proceed. As someone who frequently travels internationally, this is the first time I've encountered such an issue, especially from a leading airline. It's disappointing that instead of apologizing and correcting the system error, they collect money in this manner. This tarnishes the company's reputation, and we may start avoiding it. We are paying penalties due to your system's flaw, which is very unfortunate.
