As of 03.02.2024, my wife and I took the highly praised Istanbul-Milan Malpensa flight at 12:35 PM with THY. We checked in our 4 bags, including cabin luggage, at the F counter around 09:30 AM without any weight issues. We only carried our passports, IDs, and phones, leaving all important documents, chargers, money, clothes, car keys, and house keys in the checked luggage. We boarded the plane from gate 10A at the much-lauded Istanbul Airport and landed at Milan Malpensa Airport. After passport control, we waited at the baggage claim. Hours passed, and while everyone else received their luggage, none of our 4 bags arrived. Initially, we couldn't believe it. Along with us, a Korean couple and an elderly woman with a leg injury also lost their luggage. Realizing something was wrong, we went to the lost baggage office.
The Italian staff opened a report and checked the system, but our 4 bags were nowhere to be found—they weren't even loaded onto the plane. It felt like a scene from the movie Terminal. We were left with nothing—no belongings, no money, no chargers. We can't even go home since our keys are in the luggage. I regret trusting Turkish Airlines and the supposedly flawless Istanbul Airport. It's been 24 hours, and we still have no answers about the whereabouts of our 4 bags and the other 8 bags from fellow passengers. They told us they'd call or email us, but nothing yet. Such a level of inconvenience is unprecedented. I even called customer service from abroad twice to explain the urgency, but still no resolution.
My wife and I are stranded with nothing. Meanwhile, the responsible staff are probably sleeping comfortably at home. I don't even have a jacket in this freezing weather. This kind of situation is unimaginable anywhere else in the world.
