Turkish Airlines Flight Cancellation on July 19th: Request for Compensation

On July 19, 2024, our 18:50 Brussels-Istanbul flight was canceled by Turkish Airlines. We had purchased tickets for the most suitable flight, the 02:00 AM THY flight to Izmir on July 20, as we were supposed to arrive in Istanbul at 23:50. The new flight time was rescheduled to 14:25 on July 20, meaning we would arrive in Istanbul at 19:00 and miss our Istanbul-Izmir flight. We requested either an update to our Istanbul-Izmir flight on July 20 or a refund. Since the issue was not caused by us, it is only fair to get what I paid for. Additionally, THY officially stated that no one would be adversely affected by the disruption on July 19. I am requesting compensation for the inconvenience caused by the flight disruption on July 19, 2024. We explained the situation to the staff at the airport office, and they directed us to customer service. When we called customer service, one representative couldn't help, another asked for extra money, and another call was cut off during the process. This behavior is unworthy of a trusted institution like THY. The promises made need to be upheld. I have been financially and emotionally distressed. I can't find anyone to address my issue. My ticket worth ₺4000 is wasted; either refund my money or include me in a suitable flight. I am waiting for a response from a competent and knowledgeable person.

After speaking with the call center, I was informed that no refund or change could be made because a fee transaction related to the ticket had been processed. In short, the company did not issue an official statement regarding the disruption that occurred on July 19. The field employees also said that we had the right to a free change and that we should pursue our rights. They provided printouts of all the necessary documents and advised us to apply through official channels. As a result, I paid 8000 TL for a ticket that was 4000 TL. I am very upset about my rights. Beyond the money, I can't find anyone to address my concerns, and I couldn't use the free change right provided by the company.
