Turkish Airlines Cabin Crew Failed to Support Me With Sick Baby
On 26/01/2026, I travelled with Turkish Airlines on flight TK1997 on an international route with my 2‑month‑old baby girl. I was very sick during this flight, and my baby was also unwell. During landing, my baby girl started crying. I tried everything I could to calm her so that other passengers would not be disturbed, but because she was ill, had a mild fever later that night and also had gas problems, she did not stop crying. Before this, another passenger had already complained about a different family with a child and asked the cabin crew something like when that child might stop. The cabin crew member only laughed at that comment. After landing, while I was still sitting in my seat, the same female passenger turned to me and said that if I had given my baby a pacifier or bottle, my baby would not have cried and that everyone had been disturbed. This comment, especially in my exhausted and sick state, made me feel very uncomfortable and upset. What hurt me more was that the cabin crew defended this passenger and said she meant it in good faith, instead of clearly supporting a mother travelling alone with a sick 2‑month‑old baby girl and explaining to the passenger that such comments are not appropriate. I felt completely unsupported and judged during a very sensitive and difficult moment. I had already written to customer services and received only an apology and general statements such as that they cannot always do something about these situations. This answer did not make me feel that the incident or the staff behaviour was taken seriously. I have been flying with Turkish Airlines for years and this was my first flight with my baby girl. I also regularly recommend Turkish Airlines to my family, and many of them use Turkish Airlines to visit us in London. I request that this incident, including the behaviour and attitude of the cabin crew on flight TK1997, be seriously investigated and that necessary action and training be taken so that mothers with babies are protected and supported, not made to feel guilty. I also request that the behaviour of the female passenger who directly targeted me be evaluated and that such passengers, who clearly disturb and pressure parents with babies, are not welcomed on Turkish Airlines flights again. As long as this cabin crew member continues to fly without any consequence or improvement, my family and I no longer wish to fly with Turkish Airlines. I expect a clear explanation of what will be done about this incident and a more meaningful response than a standard apology.
