Requesting Full Refund from Turkish Airlines Due to Medical Emergency and Preterm Birth
On August 12, 2024, I underwent an emergency surgery resulting in the premature birth of my baby at 29 weeks. My baby is currently in the intensive care unit and is expected to remain in an incubator for about two months. I also have a hospitalization report following the surgery. Given this challenging situation, it is clear that we will not be able to undertake our planned trip to the United States on September 31, 2024. However, when we contacted Turkish Airlines, despite the refund policy stating that "a refund will be issued in the event of health issues affecting the ticketed individual or an immediate family member," we were informed that no refund would be given, and the amount would only be transferred to a wallet account for future use. Given the severity of our circumstances, we cannot accept this. With my child's health still uncertain and at great risk, I cannot agree to having the funds transferred to a Turkish Airlines wallet with the condition that it be used within two years. It is evident that this process does not provide any relief in our already difficult situation. A full refund is a legal obligation.
We did not receive positive feedback from THY employees regarding the necessary support and the implementation of rules. However, THY General Manager Mr. Ahmet addressed the issue and resolved our problem. We thank him.
