Left my iPhone 16 on Turkish Airlines flight TK216 — requesting an investigation and compensation
I travelled with Turkish Airlines on flight TK216 from São Paulo (GRU) to Istanbul on 12 July 2026. After landing in Istanbul and passing through security for international transfers, I realised around 12:00 noon that my iPhone 16 was no longer with me and understood that I had left it on the aircraft. I immediately contacted Turkish Airlines staff at the airport, explained that my phone was left on the plane and asked either to be allowed to return to the aircraft to retrieve it myself or for the cabin/cleaning crew to conduct a proper search. I was not allowed to go back to the plane, and when the staff called the aircraft, they told me that the phone could not be found. However, the Find My iPhone application clearly showed that my device, registered as “Sasha’s iPhone”, was still located at Istanbul Airport and specifically on the aircraft at that time. Despite showing that the phone’s last known location was on the plane, I did not feel that a careful search was carried out or that the situation was taken seriously. After this, the Find My iPhone application updated and now shows that my phone was later taken off the aircraft by a passenger on a subsequent flight using the same plane, and its current location is in Vallejo, California. This strongly suggests that if an adequate search had been carried out when I reported the issue, the phone could and should have been found and secured. I request that Turkish Airlines thoroughly investigates what happened to my phone after landing, including checking with the cleaning crew and lost and found, reviewing internal records and camera footage if available, and informing me clearly about the outcome. In light of the fact that the phone has now been taken abroad by another passenger after I reported it missing on board, I also expect support for compensation or another appropriate solution, as I lost my phone while under the airline’s responsibility on the aircraft.
