I Felt Frustrated By the Denial of Boarding For My Child
On June 29, I bought tickets for 2 adults and my 1-year-old baby and flew from Erzurum to Istanbul. We didn't experience any issues on our way there, but on our return on July 6 at 16:05, we missed our flight. Afterwards, at Istanbul airport, we were directed to the ticket counters to purchase new tickets. We explained the situation and asked for assistance, providing the IDs of our family members. We were told that there were no flights to Erzurum and were asked if we could be redirected to another nearby city.
We checked flights to Erzincan, but there were none. Then, we were redirected to Trabzon. We were informed that there was a connecting flight to Trabzon via Ankara and that we needed to check-in within 15 minutes. Our arrival time was stated as 21:15. I then bought a ticket to travel from Trabzon to Erzurum after 21:15 and accepted the Istanbul - Trabzon connecting flight for 4,541.78 TL. I was then directed to the family check-in area. There, my transactions were also completed with the IDs.
I was told that we would be placed on the standby list and given priority as a family with a child. After completing the procedures, we were directed to gate g1a. At the gate, we handed over our IDs and tickets and explained the situation. An official at the gate wrote down a seat number for us. We were told where to sit and waited there for about 25-30 minutes.
Then, the gates opened, and boarding began. During boarding, an employee named s***, who claimed to be an official, asked for my child's ID. After checking the ID, he said that he could not allow my child on the plane because an inf ticket was issued for the child, and the child was 2.5 years old. After all the running around and waiting, they informed me of this at the last moment. If they had told me at the beginning, I would have paid the fee.
I wouldn't have engaged in any conversation with anyone, but the employee decided to inform me at the last moment. We probably made a request to the employee, and it was denied. My complaint about this person is not because he didn't allow my child on the plane, but because he informed me of this after completing all the procedures, giving us a seat number, and making us wait for a long time.
Additionally, he argued with me and directed me to 'you can go, you have a ticket, but I can't take the child, you go, let the child stay,' such disrespect and such a solution are unacceptable. He accused me of 'come on, you work,' although I had not said anything about whether he works or not.
