I suspect unauthorized access to my linked bank accounts or credit cards through PayPal. What should I do?

If you think someone has gotten into your PayPal account without your permission, follow these steps to protect it.

• Make sure that your PayPal password is strong and different from the passwords you use for other accounts. For extra security, you might also want to turn on two-factor authentication (2FA).
• Look over your transaction history often to see if there is anything fishy going on, and report any unauthorized transactions to PayPal right away. Also, make sure that you are logged out of your PayPal account on all of your devices to stop anyone else from getting in.
• Contact your bank(s) right away if you think someone has gotten in without your permission. Tell them what's going on and ask that any linked cards or accounts be frozen or canceled. Check your bank statements carefully over the next few weeks to see if there is any activity that you didn't authorize. If you find any, report it right away to your bank.

Last but not least, contact PayPal support to report the hack and get help. Give PayPal information about possible unauthorized access, any transactions that happened without your permission, and any messages you got about it.
