On December 31st, 2023, I purchased 4 sweatshirts from the GAP online store. I washed one of them without ever wearing it. After washing, the sweatshirt became stretched out around the waist and looked like the picture I attached. When I went to the store to return it, they said they couldn't accept it because it was washed and returns are only accepted within a month.
They wouldn't accept the return because I washed it before ever wearing it. How could I have known the sweatshirt would fall apart like this after washing? Especially with the recent scabies outbreak, we're all supposed to wash our clothes before wearing them!
The store claims this amount of stretching is normal and they won't accept a return. But the stretching only happened around the waist. The sleeves, cuffs, and the rest of the sweatshirt look perfectly fine. There's clearly an issue with this specific part of the garment, but the store refuses to acknowledge it.
The unworn sweatshirt I paid for is now basically garbage. I called customer service and they created a ticket, saying they would speak to the store. The store has no idea about this and I haven't heard back yet.
I am demanding a full refund for this item. If they refuse, I will be forced to take legal action. I'm incredibly disappointed that such a large brand wouldn't stand behind its products.
