Booking.com Non-Smoking Room Smelled of Smoke – Full Refund Requested
I made a reservation through Booking.com for Dutch Motel in Palmyra, Pennsylvania for July 11, 2026. I specifically chose and reserved a non‑smoking room because neither of us smokes and I have very bad asthma, so cigarette smoke is a serious health issue for me. When we arrived, the room we were given had a very strong and disgusting cigarette smoke odor. It was clearly not a non‑smoking environment as advertised. Because of my asthma, staying in that room was not an option for us. We immediately went to the front desk and requested a different room. The staff told us there were no other rooms available and that they could not cancel the reservation at the hotel. They said we had to contact Booking.com directly. We tried calling Booking.com all weekend. Most of the time there was no answer, and once someone picked up but it was just quiet on the line. Finally, I was able to reach someone on Monday, July 13, 2026. I was told that a complaint would be filed and that we would receive a confirmation email, but no such email ever arrived and we have not received any follow‑up from Booking.com. Because the room provided did not match the non‑smoking room described on the Booking.com website, and because this situation put my health at risk and forced us not to stay, I am requesting a full refund for this reservation and a proper review of this property’s listing so that future guests are not misled about the availability of non‑smoking rooms.
