I rented a car from Avis in Belgrade, Serbia, and paid the full rental amount including all insurance coverage upfront. Everything seemed fine until I returned the vehicle. At that point, they failed to refund the $120 deposit that was supposed to be returned.
They claimed the reason was two parking violations, but when I asked for official documentation or proof, they provided nothing at all. Then, they tried to charge me €100 for vehicle cleaning, even though the car wasn’t unusually dirty. I refused, took the car to a car wash myself, paid around ₺200, and brought it back clean. At that point, they accepted it and said there were no further issues.
However, after returning to Turkey, I was shocked to find an unauthorized charge of ₺13,919 on my card. That brought the total rental cost to an outrageous level—almost ₺8,000 per day.
This is nothing short of unjust profit-taking. Avis provided no transparency, no documents, and no proper justification for the money they took from me. I demand an immediate full refund of the excess charges and the return of my original deposit.
Avis, this is fraudulent behavior and completely unacceptable for an international rental brand. I strongly advise others: do not rent from Avis in Serbia or anywhere else without first understanding how they exploit customers after return.
