Turkish Airlines Charged Me Extra For Excessive Baggage
On 25.09.2023, while traveling for a pilgrimage on my Adiyaman-Mekke flight, I was told at the airport that I had no baggage allowance and was charged an exorbitant baggage fee of ₺12,101 to be allowed on the plane. When I purchased my ticket on the official website https://www.turkishairlines.com/tr, my steps were as follows:
1. I clicked on https://www.turkishairlines.com/tr.
2. I selected Adiyaman >> Jeddah Airport.
3. After clicking the search button, I chose a suitable time; you can choose any time.
4. After selecting the time, as shown in the attached screenshot, three options were presented: Ecofly, Extra fly, and Prime fly. I chose Ecofly.
5. Ecofly offers 15 kg checked baggage and 8 kg cabin baggage, as stated in the popup window during selection.
6. I completed the process and purchased my ticket. I bought tickets for both myself and my friend at the same time.
On the day of the flight, at the airport, I was told that I had no baggage allowance and could only board by paying a fee, which completely disrupted my spiritual journey. They charged an exorbitant amount of ₺12,101 on my credit card.
Since I had to fly and couldn't miss the flight, I made the payment and immediately tried to reach THY officials via phone and their website on the same day. On 18.10.2023, they closed my case, claiming I had chosen a package that didn't even appear on my screen. Although the THY officials I spoke with on the phone acknowledged that such a fee should not have been charged, the internal decision was not in my favor. We never saw an option called EcoJet. You will see this if you follow the steps I described above. In short, we demand the refund of the ₺12,101 charged to my card by claiming we chose a package that didn't even appear on the screen during the flight.
