On April 7, 2026, I traveled with my family on Turkish Airlines flight TK2472 on the Istanbul – COV route, with 2 adults and 1 baby under a single reservation (2352297527030 – 2352297527031 – 2352297527032). Our total baggage allowance was 70 kg of checked baggage plus 24 kg of cabin baggage, for a total of 94 kg, including 3 carry-on bags and 2 checked bags. Although our baggage allowance was sufficient and we were within the permitted limits, our carry-on luggage was sent to the cargo hold without our consent due to an error by ground staff, and we were charged a fee.

During check-in, the staff sent our carry-on baggage to the hold without asking for our approval. We clearly objected and stated that we did not want our carry-on bags checked and that we were within our baggage allowance. Despite our objections, our bags were not returned, and we were told that we had to pay a fee. When we insisted on getting our carry-on baggage back, we were redirected to the lost and found desk instead of resolving the issue at the counter. Later, we were told to either pay the fee or request a refund afterward through lost and found. In order not to miss our flight, we were forced to pay approximately $74 at the airport check-in counter using my credit card ending in 8371.

Our baggage weights were accurate when we arrived at the airport, and we were fully within our total baggage allowance. The issue arose entirely because your staff unilaterally and without our consent sent our carry-on baggage to the hold and then charged us. I consider this approximately $74 baggage fee to be unjust and a violation of our passenger baggage rights. I request that this improperly charged amount be urgently refunded to my credit card ending in 8371. I also ask that a thorough internal investigation be conducted regarding the ground staff involved, so that similar situations do not happen to other passengers in the future.
