I Experienced Severe Issues with Turkish Airlines Pet Travel
I want to share how THY caused me issues at the airport with my cats. First of all, know that you might get more accurate information by watching a YouTube video than from THY. Before my flight to America on September 26, 2023, I prepared my cats' documents according to the information provided by THY customer representatives and the official THY website. I even called again on the last day to confirm that my documents were complete. They assured me that everything was in order and we were ready to fly. THY stated that a passport, vaccination card, rabies vaccine, microchip, and veterinary health and travel approval documents were sufficient for the flight. However, when I arrived at the airport, a very rude staff member handling the pet check-in said an additional document was required. Despite telling them that THY customer representatives and the website did not mention this document, they dismissed me, saying it was procedure. The staff even boasted about having left another cat behind before me. Unfortunately, my pets are still in Turkey. I filed a complaint upon returning to America, and they said the situation would be investigated. After a week, they responded, saying the information given to us was within the rules. If that's the case, why did they ask for an extra document and cause us trouble? They made no effort to compensate for this issue. When we said there was no one to leave the animals with, they said it wasn't their concern. They have no solutions and show zero respect for animals and their owners! If you plan to fly with your pet, don't trust THY staff too much. They might ask for a blood test required only for dogs in America, even for cats. Our cats are still in Turkey. Our issue continues...
