On December 8, 2025 at 10:23 p.m., I purchased a ticket through trip.com for a Bali–Phuket flight on January 23, 2026, and I also paid an extra $65 USD for a 20 kg baggage allowance. Afterwards I realized I had the wrong travel date, and within 24 hours I contacted customer service to request that my flight be changed to December 24, 2025.
The call lasted about 40 minutes, and even though the flight was still 16 days away, they said based on company policy I had to pay a change fee. At first I refused this fee and asked for the change to be made for free since the flight hadn’t been printed and it was early; but they refused. Later they said I could make the change if I paid about $116 USD for the fee, and even though I didn’t want to, I was forced to accept this fee.
During this call, I also asked that the 20 kg baggage allowance I had already purchased for my original ticket be transferred to my new flight. At first I was told it would be included; but then an agent named sebo with ID tpotcnx000269 said I would have to pay again to use that baggage on the new flight. Even though we were 16 days before travel and I had already paid for the extra bag, being asked to repurchase the same baggage allowance is completely unfair and harmful to the consumer. On top of that, instead of offering a solution for this hardship, trip.com tried to placate me with a $15 USD “gift balance,” which I absolutely refused.
My only request in this process is to be given what I’m entitled to. Either change my ticket date for free, or at least transfer my originally purchased 20 kg baggage allowance to my new flight in full without charging an extra fee.
