SunExpress Closed the Gate After a 2-Minute Delay and Charged Me ₺11000 for Changes
We had a 2-person flight to Cyprus Ercan Airport with SunExpress on the 06:30 flight on 20.09.2024. Due to a 2-minute delay at the security check queue (at 05:37), the doors were closed. They told us that they could take our luggage if we left it behind, but they wouldn’t be able to transfer it. They said we could change our flight to the next day by paying the fare difference, even though there were still 50 minutes until 6 o'clock during these discussions. They refused to help. Our return ticket was with Pegasus, and we asked if we could exchange it. They said there wasn’t time for an exchange and that we should first settle the SunExpress issue. We ended up paying ₺5,100 to change the tickets on the 25th of the month. We couldn’t change our return ticket due to no availability with the other airline, so we made the change again, paying an additional ₺7,000. In total, we had to make two changes for two tickets and paid an extra ₺11,000. As a result, our flight, training, hotel check-in, and everything else were postponed by a day. There isn’t even a 24-hour complaint center we could contact about the issue. They told us to call during business hours. We had no point of contact, and this whole situation was caused by the company’s lack of concern for our rights over a 2-3 minute delay that wasn’t even our fault. There should be consequences for this.
The ticket says that it is sufficient to be there 45 minutes in advance. Additionally, we learned that the plane on that day was only one-third full, and no assistance was provided in any way.
