Aggressive Treatment and Discrimination at Pegasus Airlines Check-in Counter in Schiphol Airport

July 5, 2023 2:35 PM157

On July 1, 2023, I arrived at Pegasus check-in counter number 10 for my flight PC1254 from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The attendant informed me that I couldn't bring my small personal bag onboard and insisted that I put it in my checked luggage, despite my explanation that it contained valuable items and was not meant to be checked. She displayed an aggressive attitude and demanded to see me place the bag in my luggage. When my spouse and I discussed the situation in Turkish, she rudely told my spouse to speak in English. I intervened, explaining that my spouse didn't speak English and that she was speaking to me. She then informed us that we had to pay an extra fee for our suitcases, which appeared to weigh 43 kg for two people. When I mentioned that Pegasus allows up to 23 kg per person, she dismissively replied, "This is Holland." I expressed my disappointment in her aggressive behavior and asked why she was acting this way. In response, she yelled at us, saying she wouldn't process our check-in. When we asked for her name, she had removed her name tag in violation of the rules. She revealed that she was also Turkish but stated that she wouldn't be going to Turkey. We continued to ask for her name, explaining that we could speak Turkish, but she claimed it was prohibited and unnecessary. I pointed out that my spouse wasn't obliged to speak English either. She then told us to leave, threatening to call security. She threw our passports and instructed us to go to the back of the line. I questioned why she worked for a Turkish company if she didn't like Turks. She warned us that security would come if we said another word. We complied and moved to the end of the line. Meanwhile, my spouse managed to take a photo of counter number 10. The attendant rushed over, shouting that she would call security, and demanded that we delete the photo. She emphasized that we were in Holland and forced us to delete it. When no one was left to process our check-in, another Turkish employee named Gn assisted us. We reluctantly paid the extra fee and forcefully transferred our personal belongings to the suitcases. Gn advised us to apologize, as the Dutch employee would refuse us boarding, claiming that the pilot had been informed and that we would be arrested if security was called. She also mentioned that they would be present during boarding. We stated that we hadn't done anything wrong and hadn't displayed any aggressive behavior or insults. G**n, against the rules, conversed with us in Turkish. In disbelief, my spouse apologized to the woman under duress. We still don't know her name. She gestured for us to leave with her hand. We demand an apology and resolution. We will pursue legal action if necessary.
