I Face Unauthorized Renewal Charge of 2,077.54 TL by Open English Despite Not Renewing Membership
On September 16, 2024, I purchased a 1-year package from Open English for my spouse. We did not renew the membership after it expired. However, on September 16, 2025, without my authorization, a charge of 2,077.54 TL was debited from my credit card under the description of “renewal fee.”
As the cardholder, I received no prior notification, consent request, or billing reminder regarding this renewal. Immediately after noticing the charge, I contacted customer service and requested a refund under my right of cancellation. Instead, I was told that refunds are only available for the initial purchase and that renewal payments are excluded from this right.
This practice is misleading, unfair, and leaves consumers without protection. I have already decided to escalate this matter to the Turkish Consumer Arbitration Committee (Tüketici Hakem Heyeti). Additionally, I will file a formal complaint with Open English’s headquarters outside of Turkey, since many other customers online have reported facing the same unauthorized renewal charges.
I strongly believe this is an abusive billing practice—charging customers for services they have not renewed and without giving proper notice.
I demand that Open English cancel this unauthorized renewal and refund the 2,077.54 TL charged to my credit card without my consent.
