I Pay More Than Taximeter Rates on inDrive Because They Removed Fare Negotiation
I’ve been a long-time user of the inDrive app, but I’m beyond frustrated with how much the platform has deteriorated ever since it became more popular. What made inDrive unique—and actually fair—was that passengers and drivers could agree on a price before the ride. This allowed us to negotiate fares and know exactly what we were going to pay. Unfortunately, that system has been completely removed.
Now, inDrive sets a so-called “minimum fare” which is often higher than what a normal taximeter would show. For example, I’ve had rides where the app sets the fare at ₺700, but a real taxi meter would have only charged ₺500. And what’s worse? Drivers still demand the full ₺700 because that’s what the app lists.
But when the actual ride goes longer—because the driver takes unnecessary detours—and the taximeter reads ₺800, suddenly the app’s “agreed” fare no longer matters. The driver refuses the ₺700 and insists on being paid the full ₺800. This is completely one-sided and manipulative.
The system clearly protects drivers while overcharging passengers. I used to love and recommend inDrive to everyone. Now I use it only out of desperation, and I warn others: you’ll likely pay more than you should. Unless inDrive brings back fair pricing and real negotiation, it’s going to lose the trust of users like me—permanently.
