During my stay at the İbis Alsancak Hotel from August 28-29, 2024, I was attacked by a bulldog in the hallway at 7:00 AM on August 29th. The dog, owned by another guest, was roaming the corridor without a leash. As I was leaving my room, the dog lunged at me, forcing me to retreat back into my room, where I had to stay for 5 minutes before feeling safe enough to step out. I called the reception for help, and it took two hotel staff members 5 minutes to get the dog back into its owner’s room. When I reported this to the reception, I was told, "We only accept small dogs." It was clear they had no understanding of the bulldog's potential for aggression despite its short legs.
When I expressed my shock at this situation and questioned the lack of preventative measures, I was told, "We warned the owner." I also received a dismissive response when I said I wouldn't return to the hotel: "That's your choice." If the hotel allows pets, shouldn't there be designated areas or separate floors for them? What if a guest with a phobia of animals had encountered this situation? It could have triggered a severe panic attack. This experience has left me questioning the safety and policies of the hotel regarding pet management.
