Hotels.com Withdrew An Excessive Amount Without Authorization
Hotels.com withdrew an amount of 29,384.50 TL from my account without any authorization, 3D Secure, or redirecting to the bank system, even though the transaction was for 28,431,000 TL. I have been unable to reach them. I couldn't even reach their automated customer representative for half an hour. This is going to be my first and last reservation with them. Despite making the payment through a Turkish bank for a hotel in Turkey, I do not accept the exchange rate difference they have imposed on me. I request a refund of 953.50 TL to my credit card. They are deceiving customers by displaying one amount on the payment screen and withdrawing a different amount without consent. They are committing a crime in any case.
On the same day, after we submitted a complaint to the bank (Yapı Kredi Bank), the provision was updated by the end of the day to reflect the actual amount we needed to pay. I saw in a response from Hotels.com to someone else that this problem is due to the difference charged by banks because of exchange rate differences. I still don't know whether the price update was a result of our complaint to the bank or just a part of the natural process.
