On Sunday, October 20, between 12 PM and 6 PM, I rented a Suzuki Vitara from Europcar at Istanbul Airport. Upon pickup, the vehicle was given to me with a half-full fuel tank. When I called Europcar to ask if I was supposed to return it with a full tank, they confirmed I should bring it back with the same half-tank level.
I drove the car for a total of 133 km, and upon returning, I filled the tank with ₺600 worth of fuel. Later, I received an invoice showing an additional ₺400 fuel charge with a 50% service fee added on top. I tried to clarify this by calling *** 533 760 8***, where I spoke with a representative named M***. However, this is where the situation became unacceptable.
Instead of addressing my concerns, M*** responded with dismissive and disrespectful remarks, including “Why would Europcar need your ₺600?” and continued using an unprofessional tone. When I questioned his conduct, he retorted, “I’m M***; who are you?” and hung up on me.
My questions are as follows:
Why was the car given to me with a half-full tank? How am I expected to match this fuel level accurately?
Despite returning the car with the same fuel level, why was I charged extra for fuel?
Is it standard practice for Europcar staff to speak to customers in such an unprofessional and disrespectful manner?
Does Europcar encourage this kind of informal language with customers?
Are Europcar invoices exempt from customer questioning?
Is Europcar aiming to create dissatisfaction so that customers won’t consider renting from them again?
This experience has left me highly dissatisfied with Europcar, and I hope immediate action will be taken to address both the overcharge and the unprofessional conduct of their staff.
