I recently had a deeply frustrating experience with DHL regarding a package I ordered from Japan. The items were low-value disk drives (worth far below €30) that I needed for an old computer. Despite providing all proper documentation and invoices, DHL claimed my package was rejected at customs. I was told that once a package is rejected, I cannot appeal or resubmit, which seems entirely arbitrary and unfair.
Adding to my frustration, when packages are returned, DHL charges exorbitant fees for international shipping—far more than the discounted rates applied to the original shipment. For this return, I was told I might pay up to 7-8 times the original shipping cost.
I even escalated the issue to CİMER and, after 40 days, received a response—not from customs, but from DHL. This response was a templated reply irrelevant to my specific case. It became clear that DHL itself may be making decisions about package clearance instead of government customs officials.
This mishandling and lack of transparency from DHL make me question their practices and whether this is part of a profit-driven system. I strongly advise against using DHL for international shipments, as their fees and procedures seem designed to exploit customers. I demand a proper explanation, accountability, and compensation for this mishandling.
