I Rented a Fully Covered Car via Booking.com but Had to Pay 250€ Cash Deposit

My family and I traveled to Sarajevo on July 3, 2025, and I booked a fully covered rental car through Booking.com. When I went to pick up the car, the local rental company demanded a 1,800€ deposit on my credit card. Although my card had sufficient limit and I authorized the hold, the company repeatedly tried to charge and cancel the deposit, falsely claiming there was an issue with my card.
I immediately contacted my bank, and they confirmed there was no problem with the card. I even used the same card without issue at the hotel and shops in Sarajevo. Despite this, the rental company insisted I pay 250€ in cash or they wouldn’t release the car. To avoid being stranded abroad with my family, I reluctantly paid the cash. They only gave me a receipt stamped and signed under “insurance.”
I returned the car on July 8 without any problems, documenting the process on video. Afterward, I discovered this company has used the same tactic on many other tourists.
I demand a full refund of the unjust 250€ deposit, removal of this company from Booking.com, and protection for future customers. I have all evidence and will pursue legal action if necessary. Booking.com must act now to prevent further abuses.
