We booked and prepaid for a rental car through Booking.com using my personal account and credit card. However, I was not going to be the main driver—just the one completing the payment. During the booking process, we even selected the option for an additional driver, but at no point were we prompted to enter or confirm the main driver’s name.
When we arrived to collect the car, the rental company refused to hand it over because the system had registered me—based solely on the card used for payment—as the main driver. I didn’t have my driver's license with me because I wasn’t supposed to drive. The actual drivers, both of whom were present and had valid licenses and cards, were ignored.
We were told we had to update the main driver’s name through Booking.com, but after hours of being bounced around, including a long call with an agent in the UK, we were informed only the rental agency could change the driver name. The rental company, of course, said the opposite. No one took responsibility.
In the end, we never got the car we paid for. We had to spend even more on taxis and now we're chasing a refund that no one from Booking.com seems willing to process. We've emailed multiple times—zero response. This is unacceptable. We paid for a service we were never allowed to use and have been left without support or resolution. I demand a full refund immediately and an apology for the time and money wasted.
