Booking.com Misled Me About Cyprus Hotel Location and Refused Refund for Invalid Booking

I searched for hotels in Lefkoşa, Cyprus on Booking.com and made a reservation at 01:54 AM. Nowhere on the hotel listing did it say it was located in South Cyprus. In fact, when you search for other regions—like Girne—Booking clearly labels them as "North." But for this hotel, that vital info was completely missing.

Later, while browsing nearby attractions on Google Maps, I realized the hotel was actually in South Cyprus. I immediately tried contacting Booking.com around 03:30 AM, but there was no Turkish-speaking customer support. They made it feel like the issue was my fault just because I couldn’t explain everything in English. So much for their “24/7 support”—it’s just a myth.

I messaged both the hotel and Booking multiple times through the app, all time-stamped. The hotel didn’t even confirm the reservation until 2 PM the next day. When I called Booking several times, they kept passing the blame back and forth with the hotel. I was told I should have “read the map more carefully” and checked the location via Google Earth. Excuse me—I booked through your platform because I expected accurate information.

Now, I can’t even reach the hotel because I’m unable to cross the border, and I’ve lost my payment for a booking between April 18–20 for three people. Booking refused to refund me, claiming their “policy” doesn’t allow them to contact the hotel or assist further. One agent even hung up on me. Another provoked me with a condescending tone, making the whole experience even worse.

I booked and paid through a platform that offers service in my native language—yet when I needed real help, no one could assist me in Turkish. I’ll never use Booking.com again. If speaking English is the only way to resolve issues, I’d rather look up hotels on Google Earth and call them myself directly.
