Turkish Airlines Ticket Cancellation Issue on Flight from Switzerland to Turkey
On June 5, 2023, I purchased a three-person family ticket from the official THY website for a flight from Switzerland to Turkey scheduled for August 13, 2023, costing approximately ₺1,300. For two months, everything went smoothly until the day of the flight. During check-in on August 13, I was informed that our tickets had been canceled. In a panic, I checked my email and found a cancellation message sent 20 minutes earlier. Despite explaining the situation to the authorities and proving the payment from my account, I was not allowed to board the plane. When I called THY to explain my situation, they expressed confusion and assured me that the payment would be refunded within 2 to 7 business days. I was left stranded, my young child was distressed at the airport, my family in Turkey was inconvenienced, and I couldn't use the rental car I had paid for in Turkey. While the payment was refunded, the emotional distress and inconvenience remain unaddressed. My rights were violated as there were no available seats on the plane once my ticket was canceled. I suspect our three tickets were sold to other individuals at a different price. No one can explain why a ticket paid for two months in advance was canceled on the last day. This situation was extremely disappointing, especially in front of our Swiss friends, who were not surprised by this occurrence. This is unacceptable!
