Turkish Airlines Rescheduled My Flight Impacting My Travel Plans
Three friends and I planned a two-night, three-day trip to Mardin and purchased our round-trip tickets months in advance. However, just one day before our departure, we were informed of a change due to operational reasons for flight TK2677 on 11.12.2023, originally scheduled for Mardin 17:50 - Istanbul 20:05. Turkish Airlines rescheduled the flight to 10:15 in the morning. This change meant we had to cancel all our plans for the last day.
This alteration completely disrupted our itinerary and rendered the annual leave we used for this two-day trip useless. Most importantly, this change was made without our consent. The costly preparations we made months in advance for this trip were wasted due to this unconsulted change, negatively affecting both our work and travel plans. Consequently, we had to reschedule our flight to the next morning, 12.11.2023, after discussing with customer service.
In this situation, we faced additional costs such as:
- Using an extra half-day of leave,
- One additional night of accommodation,
- Extending the car rental period.
We submitted official invoices to request compensation for the inconvenience and these costs, but our request was denied on the grounds that the change was notified in advance. (One day's notice is not sufficient.) We believe Turkish Airlines is responsible for this change. We contacted customer service again to create a record but received no response. We do not accept their explanation of 'early notice.'
