Turkish Airlines Miscommunication and Missed Flight
On August 19, 2023, we had a flight from Izmir to Istanbul at 09:20 AM. This trip was meant to fulfill our child's dream, but unfortunately, we missed our flight due to miscommunication by Turkish Airlines staff at Izmir airport. The staff on duty that day caused not only us but many other passengers to miss their flights. Due to incorrect information, many people couldn't fly that day. Despite being at the airport early, the crowd and the busy ticketing area of Turkish Airlines prevented us from making our child's dream come true. We tried to buy another ticket for the same day, but since there were no available seats, we had to put ourselves on the standby list. We paid for another ticket, and if any passengers were late, we would take their place. However, if all passengers showed up, they said they would only refund the tax portion of our ticket and keep the rest. This is unacceptable. We missed our flight because of them, and they hold our tickets. They say we can use the ticket within a year within Turkey, paying a penalty. For new tickets, they again keep most of the amount and only refund the tax portion. Our six-year-old son wanted to board the plane, and we couldn't give him this surprise. We will never fly with Turkish Airlines again. They should check the cameras from that day and see how many people they inconvenienced. They know how to delay flights for parliament members and wait for last-minute big businessmen and state officials, opening the gates for them. Despite being there an hour early, they closed the gates and made excuses that we couldn't board. I personally do not forgive the money I paid for the ticket.
