Inexperienced Staff Issue During Turbulence on Turkish Airlines Flight
Turkish Airlines
On November 11, 2023, during the 13:15 Kastamonu-Istanbul flight, we experienced approximately 2 hours of turbulence due to adverse weather conditions. I was seated in row 14 and had to assist an elderly woman who became distressed due to the prolonged shaking of the plane. I called for assistance, and eventually, a flight attendant arrived, but she was very young and inexperienced. She only asked the passenger if she was using any medication. I calmed the passenger down by giving her a wet wipe and tissue. The flight attendant just sat in the adjacent seat and watched me. Later, a passenger seated in 16F also became unwell. The plane was small and shaking excessively. I helped this passenger too by providing a tissue and a wet wipe. Meanwhile, a passenger in the front rows was complaining, and the flight attendant's response was quite interesting: 'The weather conditions outside are very bad, can't you see?' I thought to myself, 'Open the window so we can see,' but we were thousands of feet in the air. The flight attendant could have calmed the distressed passengers by explaining, 'Due to adverse weather conditions...'
Turkish Airlines fell short in this situation. They are employing staff who lack knowledge and experience.
